On April 13, 2025, the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva concluded with great success. Phohom' project, "Key Technologies and Industrial Applications of Explosive Bonding for Thick Clad and Multi-Layer," stood out among over 1,000 inventions from nearly 50 countries worldwide and was honored with the "Gold Medal With Jury Congratulations." This prestigious award serves as a significant recognition of Phohom technological innovation capabilities.
Organized by the Swiss Federal Government, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other institutions, the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva is one of the world's top three invention exhibitions. The evaluation process considers multiple dimensions, including technical originality, industrialization potential, and social value, with winning projects representing the cutting edge of global invention and innovation. Awards are classified into Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, with the "Gold Medal With Jury Congratulations" being the highest honor, selected from Gold Medal-winning projects and requiring unanimous approval from the international expert jury.

The project was presented onsite by Chairman Zeng Zhiheng and the team, who engaged in warm exchanges with the international jury, Mao Jun (Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland), Yu Huarong (Party Secretary, Executive Vice Chairman, and Secretary-General of the China Invention Association), and visitors from around the world.

The project centers on the breakthrough technology of single-step forming explosive bonding for thick multi-layer metal. Through optimized controllable explosive velocity and improved underwater sealing devices, it achieves one-time bonding of thick plates made of aluminum alloy/aluminum/titanium/nickel/stainless steel, effectively resolving the technical challenges of interfacial bonding between dissimilar metals.
The patent portfolio for this project is anchored by two Chinese invention patents—"A Multi-Layer Aluminum Alloy Stainless Steel Clad Plate and Its Preparation Method and Applications" and "A Titanium/Aluminum/Titanium Side Clad Thin Strip and Its Preparation Method"—supported by over 10 additional patents, including "A Low-Temperature Transition Joint and Its Preparation Method." The series of products developed based on this technology demonstrate significant value across multiple fields:
• Self-developed multi-layer composite transition connectors solve the challenges of interfacial bonding strength and low-temperature compatibility between dissimilar metals.
• Specialized transition joints for naval ships and high-speed trains enable integrated forming of aluminum alloy/aluminum/steel structures, significantly improving lightweight performance.
• The world's first aluminum/titanium/steel conductive joint reduces high-temperature voltage drop through transition-layer modification technology, proven by industry validation to effectively save industrial electricity consumption.
• Aluminum/copper/aluminum tri-lateral clad strips, produced via explosive bonding and lateral rolling, exhibit superior conductivity compared to industry standards while enhancing corrosion resistance and heat dissipation efficiency in power battery module applications.
